Psychiatric evaluation

A psychiatric evaluation is a clinical interview characterized by one’s first visit to a psychiatrist. It is the most important part of psychiatric care. The purpose of the initial evaluation is to give the psychiatrist a better understanding as to the main health concern at hand. This initial encounter will explore symptoms, concerns, and lifestyle factors related to the chief complaint. We understand that sharing personal details with someone you only recently met may be difficult, and that is completely ok. Please rest assured that our providers have been adequately trained to not only listen, but to truly hear, in a compassionate and non-judgmental way the ailments which our patients feel. It is important to clarify that this evaluation is not the ultimate solution, rather, it is unequivocally the best step to take in the right direction.

Telepsychiatry

Telepsychiatry is one of the most rapidly developing fields in telemedicine. The term telepsychiatry was originally used by Dwyer in 1973. It involves the use of technology to provide psychiatric services to those patients who may not be able to have a face-to-face evaluation. It is important to stress that while factors such as transportation or secondary health related complications are completely acceptable reasons for the preference of telepsychiatry appointments, anxiety relating to face-to-face interactions, or overall discomfort with meeting in person, are also perfectly valid reasons as to why some patients may prefer the telepsychiatry route. Clinical evidence shows that both in-person and virtual psychiatric appointments yield optimal health assessment and outcome results in terms of reliability and validity. At Elysium, your privacy is of the utmost importance to us. For this reason, your telepsychiatry communication is completely secure and confidential. All communications comply with HIPPA regulations, and we do not store any of them.

Medication Management

If you are reading this, it is most likely because you, or a loved one, may be considering care outside of therapy or friendly advice. During my many years in the psychiatric field, I have had the pleasure of witnessing numerous patients benefit from the use of psychotropics. With this in mind, I am sure that a large majority of patients have not had the pleasure of receiving explanations or clear communication regarding the effects and pathways that various psychotropic medications may have. This has the potential to lead to distrust or a lack of understanding between physician and patient. At Elysium, all questions are welcome and actively encouraged. In every patient interaction, the treatment plan is first proposed, followed by a thorough discussion of benefits, risks, and side effects. Neither the patient, nor psychiatrist, will be expected to follow through with a treatment plan that has not been discussed in detail. Various treatment routes may be proposed; however, the final decision is made upon mutual agreement.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is used as a way to help treat patients with a broad variety of mental illnesses and emotional difficulties. It can best aid in eliminating or controlling troubling symptoms so that a person may be able to better function and experience an overall improvement in their health and well-being. Psychotherapy is commonly used in combination with medication to best treat mental health conditions. In some cases, either psychotherapy or medication may individually prove to be most helpful, however, for the majority of individuals, a combination approach has resulted in the most significant improvement. At Elysium, Dr. Marco Rabines will personally evaluate the need for psychotherapy, and will ensure to make an appropriate referral to a respectable psychologist whom he collaborates with, or work together with your current therapist, to ensure that you are able to reach your full health potential.

Electronic Prescription

We’ve all heard the old saying, “you write as bad as a physician”. It’s a comical statement at first, but under the surface, the reality of the situation possesses several real-world complications detrimental towards patients. Usually, at the end of a visit with a physician, the patient leaves with a written prescription in hand. Ideally, the patient presents this request to the pharmacy, which in return, hands them their medication. Despite this interaction appearing simple, there are several factors in between which could result in the patient waiting extended amounts of time for their prescription, or in some cases, not receiving the prescription at all. Things happen, and life gets in the way. Written prescriptions could get lost or forgotten, in many instances, the physician's handwriting may be so poor that the pharmacist cannot discern the required medication. With the incorporation of Elysium’s e-prescription philosophy, the psychiatrist directly sends the prescription request virtually to the preferred pharmacy of the patient. This simple act optimizes the waiting time of the patient, which could be better spent distributed among other priorities
